Hey Rachael....i know that you are anticipating this surgery. My daughter had her cleft repaired at just under a year old. She did totaly awesome and it went much better than expected. I would suggest that you call your ps and speak to his nurse or him about these questions that you have. Every surgeon is different. Our surgeon didn't require any restraints or bottle/cup restrictions. Some surgeons are very strict with this. If your preop appointment is not soon, i would just call and find out. It helps to know these things in advanced. Kate was drinking from her haberman in the recovery room. She would only take room temp/cool liquids....nothing hot or cold. She was back to eating baby food by day two. She didn't need any strong pain meds...just tylenol and motrin. We rotated these every four hours for the first 12days and then moved on to just when she needed them. I would also ask the ps what kind of restraints the hospital provide. Some are actually pretty good..other are not.

: Hello everyone,
: My son is scheduled to have his palate
: repaired May 26th. He will be 11 months old
: and this will be his 5th surgery so I have
: an idea of what to expect at the hospital
: and am hopeful that we will even get some of
: the same nurses in PICU we had before. I
: just had some concerns mainly about what to
: do after the surgery...
:
: What type/brand of bottles & sippy cups
: would you suggest?
: Should we buy snuggle wraps?
: How long will he have to wear the no nos/
: snuggle wraps?
: How will feedings be post-op?
:
: Brody does have a mic-key so we know that we
: have the option of feeding him through it,
: but he loves to eat and I am concerned that
: he will miss eating post-op. Also, he is a
: thumb sucker :/ so that will be difficult
: too. Thank you for your help, I am sure I
: will be posting with more questions soon.
: Thanks,
: Rachael
