Hi Anie...not sure if I understand the post or not, but ear tubes are usually placed at time of palate repair. Most all babies with cleft will need ear tubes to help with fluid build up behind the eardrum. They don't necessarily have to have infections to have fluid build up. It is usually done at the time of palate repair because they are going under anesthesia for surgery and it prevents them from having another procedure/anesthesia. They should recheck his hearing six weeks later. I would advise you to go ahead and let them place the tubes while he is under for his palate repair considering he is already having some infections/fluid. My daughter had her tubes placed at nine months also and had only had one ear infection but when her hearing was tested, had severe conductive hearing loss due to fluid. Her hearing was checked a few weeks ago and was normal....i think she heard stuff I couldn't hear!!
