My 3 week old daughter is having the exact same problem as your neices. I am looking for answers anywhere and everywhere, all the doctors have been able to tell me is thatI have to wait and see. I was wondering how are your neices doing. I will also add them in my prayers when I pray for my daughter.

: I happened upon this site as i have started to
: try and find answers to solutions for my
: neices. Baby Heather and Baby Mackenzie
: were delivered almost 20 minutes after their
: mother died from a blot clot thru the lungs.
: She coded as her husband and brother drove
: into the hospital parking lot, then the
: small hospital had to call an experienced
: labor dr to come to the hospital, which is
: 10 minutes away. The nurses continued to
: deliver air to the babies thru the mother.
: Both girls were delivered unresponsive and
: had to be revived. The girls were to be
: delivered this past Wednesday.(36wks) Both
: girls were on a respirator for two days.
: Heather has been off the respitator since
: tue, Mackenzie has been taken of and put
: back on twice. The girls have been on
: Phenobarbital and another drug since they
: have been having seizures. Mackenzie's have
: been worse than Heather's. Neither have had
: a seizure for the past 3 days. I know that
: this is because of the seizure medicine. A
: cat scan came back negative, but after a
: week neither girls are active. They do move
: a little and will open their eyes but have
: yet to cry. Their lungs, liver, heart, and
: kidneys are fine. Sunday they were a week
: old. The nurses started to try and feed
: Heather a bottle, but she would not suck,
: swallow and has no gag reflex. The same is
: for Mackenzie. The nurses told us that this
: is a sign of brain damage. Mackenzie is
: urinating a lot more than Heather. The nurse
: said this is also another sign of brain
: damage. Tomorrow they are going to stop the
: seizure medicine then after a few days do
: another cat scan to find out how much brain
: damage there actually is. The nurses did
: tell us that if they could not teach the
: babies how to eat they would put in a
: feeding tube. Will the girls be able to
: have any kind of seminormal life with a
: feeding tube? Is there any way to repair
: the brain damage? What kind of life can the
: girls have. What are good sites to get
: information to learn how to care for
: children with disabilities like what we are
: facing? Knowledge is power and I want all
: the knowledge i can get on this situation.
: I have put the girls in God's hands and will
: deal with whatever decision he has for them.
: But until he decides I am getting all the
: info i can print out. Thanks in advance for
: any advice and help. Please pray for these
: beautiful babies.
