Mic-Key Button & Swimming?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had experience with swimming with a mic-key button. My son is 8 months old and has had his for 6months. He takes baths and from what I have read online it is ok for him to go swimming. We live near the beach and I have only dipped his toes in the water so far, is there any problem with him being in the salt water? He is dying to go in, he keeps leaning toward the ocean I forgot to ask his GI at the last checkup. I would love to hear others' experiences. Thank you, Rachael
