Thanks very much. We saw the asst. crainofacial surgeon yesterday. I explained to her my concerns and she agreed, but also said its something i have to take up with GI. We dont see them til april though. also i had never asked about feeding pre and post palate repair and ive finally found out my dr will not allow bottle/pacifier 
surgey for us is still a time frame of 9-12 mos and he is 6 mos. so really i just want to skip the bottle. she talked about cups with me and sent me home with one. i like the take and toss bc it really only comes out when u squeeze like the haberman.
anyway i guess i will just continue solids and try the cup and when i feel he is ready i will cut feeds out or in half as many of you did. i will ask GI if we can play around with higher cal during day feeds to cut out the night. also, i have skipped those 2 feeds he gets during the night a few times and hes fine, sleeps thru them but doesnt seem desparate to eat in the morning...thanks again for all the help
