Ear infections

Hi, my son is 8 months old and is starting his second round of antibiotics for an ear infection that he has had for 2 weeks now. My husband had isolated cleft palate, chronic ear infections, and tubes as a child so we knew ear infections were in our son's future. I was just wondering about tubes now I am sure things have changed since my husband who is now 27 was a baby.

Does your child have tubes? When were they placed? How was the procedure for them? Also, my husband has some hearing loss, when and how often should I have our son seen by the audiologist?
