I could have written Linda's post word for word with the exception of the "gleek" part. My daughter Maya (7-1/2 months) has what I thought at first was another tounge and it totally freaked me out. I asked the doctors to look at it and they said that it was normal, some babies have more tissue there than others. She is always sticking her tongue out and playing with it and I too often if she doesn't have enough room for it in her mouth. I don't think its too big but rather not enough room to place it. She had her palate surgery a few weeks ago and is doing great. She only babbles "m" sounds like ma, ma, ma, and nothing else. She also uses her tongue to get the milk out of the nipple rather than sucking. We are trying to get her to use a regular nipple and suck. We just staarted using a y-cut nipple for thicker liquids and it takes her like 25-30 minutes to eat 6 ounces. Before we would just cut the nipple opening so the milk flowed out.
Anyway, I would love to know if any parents with older children expereinced this and can tell us what the implications have been on speech. Thanks!

: My son also has a lot of tissue. It looks
: more like the floor of his mouth is raised
: or thick. Docs, therapist claim that he has
: a large tongue but I think the problem is
: that his tongue has no where to go because
: the tissue underneath and as a result does
: not close mouth very well and lets his
: tongue just hang out a little or he plays
: with his tongue a lot. His tongue also is
: odd in that he can turn his tongue to form a
: U shape without flipping it! He also
: produces a lot of saliva and has a lot of
: drooling. He can "gleek" several
: feet away. I think this may be a local kind
: of definition but "the use of ones
: saliva glands to shoot the saliva a credible
: disatnce" according to an urban
: dictionary on the internet. Linda

: Hello, my son Brody has isolated PRS he had
: the Lip to tongue adhesion (failed) and the

: a lot of "extra tissue" under his
: tongue almost to the point that it looks
: like a second tongue. It has been this way
: since birth and his pediatrician and speech
: therapist do not really have any explanation
: for it. I was just curious to see if anyone
: else has noticed this in their children. I
: have not been able to find any mention of it
: in my PRS research. I appreciate your help
