Thank you all for your input, do you think the extra tissue has an impact on speech development? Brody has been saying "mom" and "ow" for months now but has not added any new words to his vocab he will be 8 months in a couple days. He has started to pick up signing and can sign "more" I am going to try to learn more signs to teach him. Any tips on signing? Thanks

: wow. same here. i never noticed until i read
: this post, but my son (6 mos) looks like he
: may have that too! He has severe feeding
: issues but i dont think that is the reason.
: could just be another hallmark of prs....

: This post is very timely, I was looking in
: my
: daughter's mouth today and thought it looked
: like extra tissue under her
: tongue...interesting to know other have
: noticed this too in their kids. I wonder
: how common this is and what the implications
: are.

: Hello,
: Our son with PRS has also got a lot of extra
: tissue under his tongue. Our speach
: therapist told us this normally should been
: removed directly after birth. But his
: doctors haven't done it because his tongue
: will fall more before his airways. He only
: had the jaw distraction.
: When he's older we can let it remove, but it
: is not realy necessary. It can help for
: speach and for swallowing, but that's not
: guaranteed.
: I hope I've helped you with my information
:
: Kind regards

: Hello, my son Brody has isolated PRS he had
: the Lip to tongue adhesion (failed) and the
: jaw distraction. I've noticed that Brody has
: a lot of "extra tissue" under his
: tongue almost to the point that it looks
: like a second tongue. It has been this way
: since birth and his pediatrician and speech
: therapist do not really have any explanation
: for it. I was just curious to see if anyone
: else has noticed this in their children. I
: have not been able to find any mention of it
: in my PRS research. I appreciate your help
