My son will be four this week. He had his palate repaired at 14 months. He stayed in the hospital for one night. Once he got over the initial recovery (tiredness) He was back to his regular self, and didn't mind the arm braces. He had a very wide cleft; but, was allowed to use his pacifier immediately after surgery. This was not a problem at all.
