Holly - My daughter is only 4-1/2 months and we already have her palate surgery on the books for 7 months. Our surgeon beleives the earlier the better for speech. We live in Washington, DC and got 3 different opinions although we have access to so many hospitals here. Our surgeon who we absolutely love is from Georgetown University Hospital and works on the craniofacial team at Fairfax INOVA (Virginia) Hospital. I know another mom in the area who had her son's palate surgery at 6 months by the same team, different surgeon and loves him too. Where do you live? The other surgeons in our area do the palate surgery starting at 9 months. From what I understand this area is one of the only that offers the surgery much earlier than the 12-18 month timeframe. Email me directly if you would like more info.

: Hey guys...I have been considering getting a
: second opinion for my daughter Kate. She is
: now seven months old and doing really well
: (a chunky 22lbs!) She had a tongue lip
: adhesion done at 3weeks old. I haven't been
: the happiest with my team. I just don't
: think they are as organized or involved in
: my daughters care as I would like. They do
: not plan to do her palate repair until
: 18months. They haven't treated a lot of prs
: babies either. I have been looking into some
: options. The only other hospital that i
: could find that is in "network"
: that has a major craniofacial center is the
: Craniofacial Center at Medical City Dallas.
: Does anyone have any experience with this
: team or know anything about them? Any info
: or advice would be appreciated.
