Getting a second opinion, even if it is to let you know that your current team is doing everying right, is worth it. Your team should also support your decision.
Cheryl - when you say Sick kids, do you mean in Toronto? If it is I am 2-3 hours east on the 401. I've been wanting to get a second opinion on feeding therapy programs. Does your little one have any feeding issues? If so, what is being done? Braden has severe feeding issues and at 2 yrs 7 months old he still has a g-tube, and only tollerate purees.

: One of the biggest things I have learned since
: my son was born 8 months ago with PRS is
: that I need to be his main advocate. While
: everyone in the medical prof. is here to
: help our children & I truly believe they
: want to see the best for them, we as parents
: need to look out for our children's best
: interests. If you are feeling unsure of the
: advice/action of your daughters team,
: absolutely seek opinions elsewhere ... as to
: what options are best for your child, I am
: happy to provide you with my experience and
: recommendations of my son's cranofacial team
: suggests, but only if you want - as I know
: everyone's situation is unique. I am from
: Canada and my son is with the cranofacial
: team at SickKids (so I may have a completey
: different perspective with regards to health
: care & health care options.) Here is a

: Hey guys...I have been considering getting a
: second opinion for my daughter Kate. She is
: now seven months old and doing really well
: (a chunky 22lbs!) She had a tongue lip
: adhesion done at 3weeks old. I haven't been
: the happiest with my team. I just don't
: think they are as organized or involved in
: my daughters care as I would like. They do
: not plan to do her palate repair until
: 18months. They haven't treated a lot of prs
: babies either. I have been looking into some
: options. The only other hospital that i
: could find that is in "network"
: that has a major craniofacial center is the
: Craniofacial Center at Medical City Dallas.
: Does anyone have any experience with this
: team or know anything about them? Any info
: or advice would be appreciated.
