Hi Holly - I agree with Cheryl's comments about being your child's advocate. If you don't feel 100% right about the current team, what harm could it do to get a 2nd opinion. We are fortunate in that we live near NY and Philly, so in addition to the hospital in NY where my son Charlie will be treated, we got a 2nd opinion at CHOP about the surgery and timing. The plastics doctor there gave me a similar timeframe for the surgery and told me that there would not be a noticeable difference in the surgery and care he would get at CHOP vs. Columbia in NY. It was reassuring. The only thing I would say about coordination among the doctors is that sometimes you need to push them to work together but as the advocate for your child you aren't asking for anything unreasonable. I had an issue with the docs who are treating his reflux and when I made it clear I was not happy with his progress and pushed the docs harder they started working together a lot better. At the end of the day, the kids can't speak for themselves so we have to do it!
On another note, I remember your first posts when your daughter was born. It is so great to hear she is doing well.
Good luck, Susie

: Hey guys...I have been considering getting a
: second opinion for my daughter Kate. She is
: now seven months old and doing really well
: (a chunky 22lbs!) She had a tongue lip
: adhesion done at 3weeks old. I haven't been
: the happiest with my team. I just don't
: think they are as organized or involved in
: my daughters care as I would like. They do
: not plan to do her palate repair until
: 18months. They haven't treated a lot of prs
: babies either. I have been looking into some
: options. The only other hospital that i
: could find that is in "network"
: that has a major craniofacial center is the
: Craniofacial Center at Medical City Dallas.
: Does anyone have any experience with this
: team or know anything about them? Any info
: or advice would be appreciated.
