Hi Ann - our son Charlie was born with PRS on 11/15/07. We had an inkling of PRS after the 20 week scan. They initially noted that he had micrognathia but couldn't tell us anything more specific other than what that could possibly lead to, including PRS. I had a few growth scans after that and they were never able to see a cleft, they could only tell me that the chin still was not growing at the rate they expected. I also went for weekly scans to check the amniotic fluid to see if Charlie's small chin was causing problems swallowing and if that made the amount of fluid go up dramatically. I was always within the 'normal' range of how much fluid there should be, but always at the top end of the range. So when he was born and they told us about the PRS and the cleft we were not completely surprised.
If I were to get pregnant again, I would seek out an ultrasound doc that had some experience in this area if possible. Perhaps it is not always possible to see clefts on the scans (I have seen conflicting opinions on this site) but would feel better making the effort.
I also had genetic tests (CVS test) that was normal so I do not think tests at that level will help with diagnosing PRS.
Congratulations on your pregnancy and it is great to hear that your son is doing well!

: I had a child with PR last year 6/29/07. He
: had very minimal problems and did fine with
: tongue lip adhesion and was home when he was
: 14 days old. His tongue lip adhesion was let
: down and his cleft was repaired in April of
: this year. He is doing great. I just found
: out I was pregnant again and was wondering
: how many found out before their child was
: born and who was "surprised" at
: birth. Should I find another ob or is this
: easily missed when there is only a slight
: pushed back chin and only part of the soft
: pallate was cleft. There have been a lot of
: genetic tests and all have come back normal.
: Any opinions
