Hi there,
Our son's surgery went extremly well. He had ear tubes placed at the same time so the surgery was a little over an hour from the time they took him in until the dr came to see us. Although Brayden was a bit groggy when we first saw him- he was in great spirits. About an hour after surgery he was sitting up in bed and playing. We were allowed to use our habermen feeder (as long as we squeezed it and didn't stick it in too far). This was our saving grace!! Brayden was released from the hospital about 24 hours after surgery (he had no real bleeding and was drinking lots of fluids). Other then waking up a few times over the first few nights looking for his soother (we took his soother away as he was going into surgery) and complaining a bit about the arm restraints he did well - so much better then we had anticipated. Best of luck - hopefully before too long this will be a distant memory for you!
Holly - Mommy to Brayden - 5/5/5!

: Hello Megan,
:
: Our son, Kyno, has been born on 7th June
: 2005. He has been born with PRS. Genetics
: are still surching because he has got more
: problems. He has had his palate repared at
: his 12 months. A piece of the hard part and
: the whole soft part have been fixed. His
: operation took almost 6 hours. It was a
: long time to wait. After the operation he
: stayed at ICU for 1 night. His face was
: swollen and his lips were bleading. Very
: horrible. But after that night he woke up
: and was very happy. Two days later he could
: go home.
: We only need to take care that he didn't put
: anything into his mouth. And we had to clean
: his nose a lott with water. If you have more
: questions, don't hesitate to ask them.
: (sorry for my bad English, I'm from Belgium)

: Hello Everyone. My daughter, Madelyn, was
: born 3/13/07 and spend 66 days in the NICU
: at 3 different hospitals. She was diagnosed
: with an isolated case of PRS. She got a
: trach put in when she was 2 days old and
: then at 6 weeks she had a distraction and
: also a g-tube put in. I'm so happy to report
: that the distraction worked and we were able
: to get her trach out at the same time the
: distraction came out!! If only I had known
: of this sight back then, maybe I wouldn't of
: felt so alone!! We have her palate surgery
: coming up at the end of August and was just
: wondering if anyone could share their
: experience with me about what to expect
: during/after surgery and the how long and
: what the recovery process is like. We have
: a surgeon who is the best at what he does,
: however, he's not much into explaining
: things. Any information on what to expect
: so that I can prepare myself would be great.
