My son is on Peptamen Junior its 30 cal/oz. He has been gaining weight really well since he has been on it. He is going to see the GI in 3 weeks and they cannot get him in any sooner. There is only one Ped GI near me and its an hour away so I guess we just have to wait. He saw genetics a few days ago and they are doing a full chromosome study and also testing him for Fragile X, which if he has Fragile X it is extremely mild.

: Emily, my son Charlie (8 mos.) is having GI
: issues of a different sort - he isn't
: gaining weight which is definitely due to
: reflux but also due to other issues we
: haven't figured out yet. So I cannot help
: much on the diarrhea front. May I ask what
: kind of high calorie diet you are on? We
: are doing 24 cal/oz alimentum formula. I
: thicken it as well as he had been aspirating
: which gets us an extra 40-50 cals/day.
: One thing I will say - is there any way for
: you to get to the GI doctor sooner? I do
: not want this to sound too scary but our
: doctors suspect Charlie may have cystic
: fibrosis, which is why he is not gaining
: weight. Has your son been tested for that?
: A symptom is frequent stools with particular
: qualities (oily in nature due to poor fat
: absorption) and poor weight gain. With that
: in mind I would push to see the GI doc asap.
: Maybe your pediatrician could help get you
: in sooner? I know ours would never let it
: go that long to see a specialist.

: My 15 month olds has PRS and he is
: constantly
: having GI problems. He is on a special high
: calorie diet to keep weight on. He is
: constantly having diarrhea. He is going to
: see a GI doctor but they cannot see him for
: 2 more months. I do not know if there is
: anything associated with PRS that could be
: what is going on with him. I am so worried
: cause he loses so much weight. Anyone else
: been through this?
