Hi to you all girtls,
I am a grandma for the 1st time and Baby Blaze is born with prs. She is now close to 3mths old and has never had tongue lip adhesion as we were told to wait for Blaze's jaw to grow, hence all this while she has been on the ng tube for feeds.
Attempts are now being made to bottle feed her, but so early in development she already has a little tooth. The second time she was given the bottle her gum bled where the tooth is. Bottle feeding was stopped immediately. Now we await for advice from the dentist, as the speech pathologist did not turn up for advice re bottle feeding. The medical team said to go ahead with trying the bottle only to find the snag with the little tooth! She has been on the pulseox machine to monitor her breathing and apnoea monitor to monitor her sleep. I would welcome any information that you could all give. Of course thew dear MUm is dying to take baby home, but patience is the Key ...
Many thanks and may all go well with your precious little ones!
Sincerely,
Carol

: Hello...
:
: Thanks for the information! My son will
: not take the pacifier or bottle anymore!!
: We had a good day yesterday with the bottle
: (he took 35 cc in one sitting!!!!) But he
: absolutely refused to take anything by mouth
: now!! I'm so frustrated and heartbroken...
: I have no idea what to do anymore.

: Hey there....my daughter had a TLA at three
: weeks old. She had previously used a
: haberman feeder and continued after surgery.
: She was also big on the pacifier. She took
: to the bottle after surgery well. They
: allowed her to eat the very next day. We had
: issues with reflux though that started about
: a week after surgery. I don't know if this
: was related or not, but it caused some major
: issues with feeding. She screamed through
: every feeding for two weeks. I think it was
: because after the surgery, she was no longer
: struggling to eat/breathe and was taking
: more at a feeding and that increase in
: volume on her stomach started the problem.
: we switched her to a formula that is lactose
: free with added rice starch and gave smaller
: more frequent feedings and it seemed to work
: like a charm. She is now four months old and
: almost 16 pounds and right on target for her
: development. I would say the total recovery
: time was about six weeks....complete healing
: of the stiches and for the all the swelling
: to go away. I would just keep trying in a
: non-forcefull kind of way...smaller feedings
: more frequently and maybe try a pacifier. My
: daughter took really well to a soothie
: pacifier. I wish you and your baby the best
: of luck.

: Thank You Angela for the information.
:
: My son had two lip tongue adhesion
: procedures The first one, at 3 weeks of age,
: was not successful( the sutures ripped out)
: The second one, at 4 weeks of age, was
: successful, however the surgeon wanted to be
: extra cautions and made us wait two weeks
: before allowing anything in his mouth. In
: all, he was not allowed anything by mouth
: for nearly 4 weeks.
:
: Prior to the surgery, he did take the
: pacifier and about 1/3 of his feeds via the
: Haberman. I will keep trying!! I'm hoping
: and praying that he'll be off the ng tube
: sooner than later!!
:
: Thank you again!! I really appreciate it.
: And it's comforting to know that we're not
: the only ones and that kids with PRS are
: growing and thriving!!

: Jessy,
:
: I'd say your best bet would be to just keep
: trying. Has he ever taken a pacifier?? maybe
: that would help. My daughter had her
: tongue/lip adhesion done at 3 weeks. We
: offered her a pacifier as soon as they let
: us, and she took to it. We also had used the
: habermann before the procedure, and started
: offering that again as soon as allowed. Try
: a pacifier for comfort, then dip it in
: formula. And keep trying as often as you
: can. The sooner you get him off the n/g
: tube, the better off all of you will be.
:
: Good luck!

: Our newborn son who has PRS (isolated) had a
: lip tongue adhesion done about 3 weeks ago.
: He is very adversive to having anything in
: his mouth. We were discharged from the NICU
: yesterday with a NG tube. I was wondering
: if anyone had any techniques on how to start
: bottle feeding him. Our feeding specialist
: recommended that we slowly introduce things
: in his mouth. I am able to place the tip of
: my finger in his mouth while he is
: sleeping... anything more and he'll wake up
: screaming (but is easily consoled). It is
: really frustrating!!! Any advice from
: people who have been here would be extremely
: appreciated. Thank you!!
