Hi Melissa. I hate to say it but the arm restraints are a nightmare. Jackson had to wear his for 3 weeks. For the first week or so he could only sleep about a half hour at a time and would need to rocked back to sleep - but the length of time he could sleep lengthened as time went on. They didn't seem to bother him during the day, just reduced his mobility. In retrospect the time he spent in restraints was worth it to ensure the integrity of his repair, but they were tough.
One thing to consider is the type of restraint you have. We were given adult elbow restraints in the hospital and these were terrible. As soon as we were released I discovered Snuggle Wraps through some internet research - http://www.snugglewraps.com
The nice owner overnighted a pair to me and they were really great in comparison to the horrible ones we were given. I wish we were told in advance to look for better alternatives.
I know Ola from this board came up with a creative soft hand cover for nighttime but her son was younger - 9 months I think - this never would have worked for my son because he was 12 months at the time of repair and smart enough to tear off something on his hands. You could search the old posts for that.
Good luck. The arm restraint time will soon seem like distant memory.
