You are definitely not the only one!!!! I hate these bottles, to be blunt. We quickly switched to the Haberman/Medela Special Needs bottle. The hospital was pushing the pigeons on us but Emory (my daughter) just could not use them for the same exact reasons you listed. She took off with the Haberman and we won't use anything else. She's four months old and is doing wonderfully on the Haberman. I suggest trying a series of different nipples on the Mead Johnson bottles or definitely giving Haberman a try.
Pigeon must be great for "typical" cleft palates (which is why I assume the doctors and nurses suggest it), but it doesn't seem to work with our childrens' cleft palates.

: I tried that bottle with limited success with
: my son a few years ago. I finally gave up
: and took the advice of a nurse at the cleft
: palate foundation. I took a maliable
: plastic bottle (one that could be squeezed
: slightly) and cut an "x" into the
: nipple with a razor blade. A s my son
: "sucked", I sqeezed lightly and
: the mild would pour into his mouth a
: little. He quickly learned the rythym and
: his feeds went beautifully after a bout a
: week of practice. Good luck!

: even a bran new nipple doesnt work that
: well, its really slow and hard for him to
: get the milk out. Any suggestions?
