Hey Jackie he did indeed had a VPI but it made his obstruction worse and is on CPAP. When he had to have a 2nd adnoidectomy it made the VPI operation useless (Kinda like a reversal) but to do another VPI operation his breating could get worse. It's a catch 22.
I do understand your frustration. The state we live in has a "cleft palate law" on the books and kids can't be stopped or dropped. Every state is different.
I wish you the best....and indeed I forgot to add my son does have a slight opening in the top palate. As he grows this happens and also indeed may need to close that small hole in the future.
I do wish you the best...talk anytime :0)

: I have had her in oral motor therapy and
: speech therapy but they don't seem to help
: off and on from age 2. The speech therapists
: we have had usually say they can't do any
: more and release her or insurance stops
: coverage. We are really frustrated and the
: hospital she gos to doesn't seem to be
: concerned about it. They are more concerned
: about her breathing and growth of her jaw.
: Instead of increasing therapy they decrease
: it or stop. She has appointments in a couple
: of months with the speech department at the
: children's hospital she gos to. I'm going
: to push for more help.

:
: There is some tissue up under the soft
: palate that may not be functioning right if
: your son is getting fluid out of his nose
: still. It can be helped with therapy if the
: tissue is in tack properly but if it isn't
: or if its too short he may have to have a
: surgery to fix it and that may help that
: problem. They can find out how it is
: functioning by going in his nose with a
: scope and looking around. You may want to
: ask a speech therapist about it.

: My son is 9 and has the same issue, he still
: even gets fluid out of his nose.
:
: He has had 10 operations so far and I am
: told this issue (the one you asked about) is
: Neurological and just to increase oral motor
: therapy along with speech so the my son may
: gain some control. (That is the hop/idea).
:
: Good luck with your daughter

: I have a 13 year old daughter who has prs.
: She
: is beautiful and smart. Most people don't
: know she has ever had anything wrong with
: her....but she still has a slight drooling
: problem. She seems to not be aware of it.
: But when I talk to her she says she CAN feel
: it.
:
: She is perfectly fine. Her prs is isolated.
: She had the button surgery at 2 months and
: palate repair at 15 months.
:
: If there is anyone else out there who has a
: child with a drooling problem let me know if
: there is something I can do to help her
: correct this problem.
