Check with your NICU to see if they have a social worker. Our social worker was able to put us in touch with a family who had been thru the same thing that we were going thru. What a blessing it was to meet with them and be able to talk about our feelings. Do you have family near by that could help watch your 3yr old? If not check into a mother's day out program that way you can leave the 3yr old for a while to be in the NICU with your baby

: May 3, 2008 I had a repeat c-section for my
: son Joe. That was when I was told he has
: PRS. They swiftly took him to the NICU and
: I was unable to see him for 7 hours. Today
: is May 13,2008 and he is still there. I
: don't know what to do? I'm scared bringing
: him home but I can't stand to be away from
: him. I'm home in the afternoon with my
: three year old and she is having a hard time
: with me leaving for his afternoon feedings.
: Can someone please get back to me and tell
: me something? I live in Illinois, is there
: some place I can go and talk to other
: moms/dads regarding this. My heart is
: aching, I can't spend hours at a time at
: the hospital with him because I have no baby
: sitter for my daughter. What can I do and
: where can I go.... THanks for listening.

: I just want to let you new parent out there
: know that even though you seemed overwelmed
: right now things will get better. My
: daughter was diagnosed after she was born
: with PRS. We had no idea that there was
: anything "wrong" with our baby.
: We were told to expect a small baby because
: she was not growing very well but thats all
: we expected. Emma was born 6/9/05, 3lbs
: 11oz and 17 3/4in long. She was taken away
: 2min after she was born due to breathing
: problems. She was taken 8hrs later to
: another local hopital with breathing
: problems to be placed in the NICU, than a
: month later to a Childrens hopital where she
: was trached and had a gbutton placed. She
: came home at 3mo. I mas so overhelmed by
: all this but it did get easier day by day.
:
: Since then Emma had her pallet repaired and
: tubes placed, we had 4 gbuttons replaced,
: trach removed this past May, Gbutton and
: closure of both stomas 2 weeks ago. Emma
: has hit every mile stone at the appropriate
: age, she talked over her trach, she learned
: sign language and is a very smart and
: determined little girl. All from a little
: girl that the NICU Dr's said might not make
: it because she would stop breathing several
: times an hour, and if she did she would be
: delayed developmentally. I love to take her
: back to see those Dr.s now and say look you
: were wrong!!!! They are all amazed at her.
:
: So keep your chin up and treat your child
: like any other normal baby and have the same
: expextations for your child as you would
: your other children! I think that sometimes
: having lower expectations for your child can
: make them lag behind. Never give up and
: don;t be afraid to ask for 2nd and 3rd
: opinions! It all does get better and you
: are all in my thoughts and prayers.

: Martin born 6/9/05
:
: Thanks,
:
: Krista Martin very prod mom to
: Emma as she loves to say almost 3 and a true
: blessing
:
: and to Brianna 7 the worlds best big sister
