Glad to hear you figured it out and it was a simple fix. I've had 4 kids but no one has ever had thrush and I wouldn't even think to look for it.

: Well...it seems that maybe I have figured out
: the mystery as to why Kate has been
: screaming so with feeding..last night I
: discovered that she has thrush! All these
: days, and I hadn't even thought about that
: as a possibilty. Even though she has had a
: TLA, it is difficult to see the top surface
: of her tongue even when she is crying. I
: have given her some tylenol for discomfort
: and she was started on nystatin for the
: thrush. I also read through my many days of
: research that I may have not been using the
: haberman to its fullest potentional. I have
: been working with getting a
: "rythm" with her sucking and the
: combination seems to be working. I had
: trouble adding the cereal to the milk with
: getting it to go through the haberman
: nipple. Anyways...just an update

: Our 5 week old Carson just got diagnosed
: with
: reflux and was prescribed Prevacid. It seems
: to be working pretty well. The breast milk
: could be the problem too...it wasn't thick
: enough, enough with a fortifier added. We
: have gone to Enfacre formula with a teaspoon
: of rice cereal for every once of formula. We
: also use the Haberman exclusively. Hope this
: helps.

: We were there, too. Pump/feed. Yep.
:
: If you can feel the air going in when she
: eats, Gas-X will probably help. (May not.)
: If not, you might try cutting out dairy from
: your diet for a week and see if she
: improves. When kids have a lot on their
: plates, dairy proteins are sometimes just
: too hard to process.

: Yep..that is my life...pump/feed/pump/feed.
: I
: nursed my first daughter for a year, and i
: intend to do the same for Kate. It is very
: frustrating at times. She was eating
: good..gassy but not this crazy screaming
: baby thing! I am going to keep trying
: though. Thickening the milk a little seems
: to help some. thanks for the advice guys

: I hate to say this but yes, feeding is now
: your new battle and you will spend the next
: few months forcing the milk on her.
: Unfortunately this seems to be a common part
: of the PRS job description. My son has a
: trach and feeding has been a much bigger
: pain, particularly in the earlier months.
: As with everything with PRS babies it will
: get better as the months pass.
:
: I have no help for reflux, but we used the
: Mead Johnson and sometimes we had to burp
: Jackson every ounce. Also, I wanted to
: encourage you with the pumping as I assume
: it is pretty hard at this point. I pumped
: for 11 months and the first few were the
: hardest, I did nothing but pump, bottle
: feed, and pump again - you miss the
: "sleep when your baby sleeps"
: thing. If you have not already check out
: this Eping message board, I would not have
: survived without these ladies.

: Hey all..it is me again. Does anyone out
: there
: have any ideas about reflux? Now that Kate
: is breathing easier after her TLA, a new
: problem has arrived. She is eating more and
: now seems to be having reflux or gas pain
: from swallowed air. She has been screaming
: bloody murder everytime I feed her for the
: last three days. Needless to say we have had
: sleepless nights. I switched back to the
: mead johnson bottles with a bigger hole in
: the nipple and have been adding a little
: rice cereal to thicken the breastmilk. It
: seems to be working so far. I don't know
: what else to do about the swallowing air
: thing. I try to burp her as good/often as I
: can. Has anyone else been through this or
: have some suggestions? We have finaly
: started gaining some weight (11oz this
: week!) and I don't want to go backwards. It
: seems at times I am having to
: "force" the milk on her.
: Thanks....Holly and Kate
