Your situation sounds a lot like my daughter Kate. They are about the same age...she is four weeks old. She does the same thing..head goes back and her body gets stiff as a board. She only does this occasionaly...none since her TLA. It sounds to me like he is obstructing on his tounge. Kate did it worse after eating when she had milk/saliva in her mouth. I would suction her mouth out after each feeding. To get her out of it, I would put her face down (kind of like if you were going to do the heimlich on an infant) Gravity makes the tongue fall forward. I know it is scary...scare the crap out of me and I am a nurse! She did it when a young resident was checking her out and scared her too. These are very confusing/scary times...we are right where you are at. Feel free to email me if ya want to talk. Keep us posted on little Carson.

: Hello everyone, I just ran across this msg.
: board and I wanted to touch base with some
: people that may be able to help me thru some
: tough times and help me understand a few
: things. My wife and I spent the weekend in
: the hospital because my son Carson has these
: "episodes" where he appears that
: he is choking and can't catch his breath. He
: turn bright red, eyes water, he gets stiff
: and he waves his arms in what appers to be
: "desperation" to breathe. The Dr.
: told us that he thought it was reflux and
: during the hospital stay, he didn't have one
: episode. Now we have been home just one day
: and he is already starting them up again.
: The Dr. put Carson on Prevacid oral liquid
: for him to help with the reflux. He passed a
: 24 hour sleep apnea test with flying colors
: and everything else came up ok with his
: upper GI and other swallowing tests. Has
: anyone else ever heard of these
: "episodes"? They are VERY scary
: and most of the time we have to suction his
: nose and mouth out just for him to get air!
: Anything anyone can pass along would be
: helpful. Thanks for your time.
