Hi Shannon,
My son is 7 months and has a horshoe cleft of hard/soft palate. He has been eating solids since 4 months of age. In the beginning, it came out oif his nose constantly. now it hardly ever does, and the truth is, it bothers us a whole lot more than it bothers them. They have to learn how to swallow just like all other babies and if you give your litle one time, I bet your little girl will work it out.
I would really encourage you to keep trying and I bet your pediatrician would as well. Godd luck and let us know how it works out!

: Sierra has a cleft palate which makes it
: difficult to feed her. The food ends up
: coming out of her nose.
:
: Her jaw was corrected with the distraction
: surgery so she is able to now use her hard
: palate since it is the soft palate that is
: open but she does not know how and neither
: do I.

: I have read many postings on this however I
: am
: still having trouble with the simple little
: fruits. Sierra is almost 7 months old and I
: can do no more than add cereal to a bottle.
: I tried to mix cereal with the fruit to
: thicken it up (that was off a posting- it
: helped) but after a few bites it comes out
: of her nose. I am reluctant to continue
: however I know it is for her own good. Any
: more suggestions or just stick with it and
: it gets better?
