Count us as still be tube fed as well. Same as Stephanie, I never thought coming home with an n/g at 3 mos that she would still be tube fed at 18 mos old. From the beginning I assumed (wrongly and naively) that she'd pick up eating orally on her own. Unfortunately I realized that it takes a lot of work and a lot of intervention to move them in that direction. The poster who got their child off the tube in 3 mos is, in my opinion, not a typical result at all. Deprivation hasn't worked for Kate. Feeding therapy did, as did repairing her cleft.
Good luck. You're not alone. Right now, my goal is to lose the tube for good by Fall.

: Hi Amanda,
:
: We are in the same shoes. My son will be 2
: on April 1st. He is 50% reliant on his
: G-tube for nutritian, and 100% for fluids.
: Althought he does allow us to feed him
: orally, he will only accept purees. I never
: thought in a million years that when Braden
: was finally sent homne from the hospital at
: 3 months onld with the NG, that he would
: still be tube fed at 2 years old, and
: counting. I read one of the other's
: responses about that she go tough with he 1
: yr old and the baby was off the tube in 3
: months, that it very impressive, and I wish
: it would work for us, but our attempts of
: depriving him of a portion of his daily
: needs in order to get him to take more
: orally have failed. I really wish there was
: an easy answer for all of us.
:
: Just wanted to let you know that you are not
: the only one with a 2 yr old, who is still
: struggling.
:
: All the best,
:

: My daughter still has a mickey button and
: just
: turned two. I have tried several different
: therapists and right now all I have gotten
: her to do is put a spoon (or something like
: that) just barely in her mouth. I guess
: this is a big step considering she wouldn't
: put anything in her mouth a few months ago,
: but this seems like at this rate she won't
: eat orally until she is a teenager. I know
: this takes time, guess I am just a little
: discouraged. Any suggestions or encouraging
: stories would be greatly appreciated.
: Thank you,
: Amanda
