Yes, I asked if Dr. Tom could put Blake on his schedule for surgery..beings he was doing it in July. I was told NO. I asked if anyone else was available. I was told no. I was told to call back in a few weeks to see if there was any cancellations...that seems highly unlikely if they cant squeeze a twenty min procedure in.

: Have you thought about asking if another
: surgeon can do the tubes, maybe Dr. Zur??
:

: Angela, yes we have nursing everynight.
: There
: was no order written, in fact our nurse has
: never heard of it nor seen it done, and she
: has been a nurse for 37 years. I have not
: done it yet, I am home with him all day and
: have a close eye on him. For now I have
: been keeping the trach collar for the mist
: air on pretty tight..it makes him mad..but
: he cant get to his trach. He's done it
: twice this past week and a few times in the
: past. Im hoping it's a new trick that he
: will quickly grow tired of! His tube
: surgery is scheduled for 5-23..which has me
: upset bc he's had a bad infection since
: January. He's been on everything
: possible..the last resort was the rocephyn
: antibiotic shot. He's been getting that for
: 5 weeks straight. His ears are not getting
: better, but they are getting worse. so,
: finally last week dr. J said ok to
: surgery..BUT he has no opening till May
: 23rd..and so basically Blake suffers till
: then. Hes miserable he has fevers, bangs
: his head, pulls his ears cries, wont sleep,
: barley eats jar food...its awful and I cant
: see how he should have to suffer till
: 5-23...sorry to vent. oh and 5-5 is for the
: pre op apt.

: DO you have nursing? Is the harness written
: as
: an order for all day everyday use? Is he
: doing it all day, everyday...constantly
: pulling it out. I think if it was me, and I
: was watching him, and I was able to distract
: him, and it wasn't a constant thing, I'd
: probably not do the harness.
:
: Are they putting the ear tubes in? Is that
: what you're appointment is for May 5?
:
:
: --Previous Message--
: Angela, I doubt my message even made it to
: dr.
: j. I spoke with the nurse, then I requested
: the nurse to ask. and then a nurse
: practioner called me back and agreed with
: the harness. We dont go back until his pre
: surgery apt on May 5.
:
: --Previous Message--
: So Dr. J wants him to wear the harness? I've
: never even seen or heard of a harness until
: now. When are you supposed to go back there?
:
: --Previous Message--
:
: I completly switched over to chop. he only
: saw that ent at st. chris once as well..it
: was always residents..which is why we
: switched..
: --Previous Message--
: I know you have a regular ENT, and you only
: saw Dr. J one time, but you could call and
: speak with them. Her being able to decann at
: will was the reason we upsized in the first
: place.
:

: Not at all...I feel the stoma looks
: different..and its clearly popping out much
: further (the trach that is) then usual..it
: looks to small for him...Im completly
: frustrated!
: Question..how much sound is
: "normal" for a trach? Blake is
: now talking more clear without the pmv then
: with...?? he says mama and baba and uh oh
: all the time..without the pmv..just i guess
: passing sound around his trach...now is that
: normal?? I ask..but no one ever answers!
:
: --Previous Message--
: Are you happy with that?
:
: --Previous Message--
: Talked to ent..they want him to wear a trach
: harness..uhh..anyway it wraps under his
: armpits and around his back and counteracts
: his pulling..so that's it for now
:
: --Previous Message--
: Thanks for the suggestions! I deft know its
: not the straps they were brand new and very
: tight around his neck. He pulls down on it
: and it comes out almost backwards. I was
: talking to his nurse last night and she
: agreed that the tube is probably too
: short..as Angela said. I am calling today
: to see what they say..he's had the 3.5
: Bivona since he had his trach.
: Also, I posted before about his ear
: issue..well, they finally agreed to do tubes
: now vs july..but the first opening is not
: till may 23..uhh..so it looks like he will
: get a shot or rocephyn on a weekly basis
: Thanks again for the input!

: Hi Melissa, I know it's scary to know the
: trach is out, but it sounds like he's just
: going about his business and not crapping
: out, and that's good news. I agree about the
: twill ties. They are not stretchy at all,
: and there's no way he'd be able to pull on
: the trach enough to get them out. With that
: said, Kate was doing just that and we
: figured out it wasn't that the ties weren't
: tight enough, it was that the trach tube
: inside her, wasn't long enough. She was in a
: 3.5 Neo Bivona for close to a year when she
: started being able to decann herself. Her
: ENT upsized her to a 3.5 Ped Bivona, so the
: inside tube is longer, but not wider.
:
: Just a thought.

: Hi everyone..Blake's almost 8 months now and
: just started to completly pull his trach
: out! I unfort have to tighten his straps so
: tight, but he still manages to yank the thing
: out. He doesnt get upset or anything..just
: pulls it out and continues about his
: business. He starts to freak when we start
: to freak..anyway..how can I get him to
: stop..or is there something going on with
: the trach that is allowing him to yank it
: out?? Can he cause any damage by pulling it
: out? I know these are questions to ask the
: dr..but I hate to bother him yet again.
: Thanks
: melissa
