My son could not get comfortable at night w/ the restraints...he wasn't a thumb sucker at all ( he was 13 mo. at surgery), so we took them off at night (during the day was when he'd try to gum on toys due to teething)..But our dr. sent us home w/ tylneol that had a low dose of codine in it to help him sleep if needed....you may want to ask your dr. about that just to get him over the hump if he is in pain.

: Is she in pain, or just miserable without her
: thumb? Poor thing.
:
: My daughter had her palate repaired this
: past December. She was a big time pacifier
: sucker before and she had a hard time
: getting used to going to sleep without it
: after the repair. She was in a bit of pain,
: and we gave her Tylenol probably for 5 days
: at night, so she'd be able to get to sleep.
: She didn't need the arm restraints...she had
: no interest in putting her hands or anything
: else in her mouth, so we didn't use them.
:
: We ended up replacing the pacifier with a
: stuffed Elmo, and she cuddles with that now.
:
: Hang in there. It gets better!

: Our daughter is now 1yr and had her cleft
: palate repaired on Tuesday, March 4th. She
: was born with Pierre Robin and had the jaw
: distraction done at 8 days old then removal
: of device at 10 weeks. This was her third
: surgery and by far the worst recovery. She
: was a big thumb sucker and with the arm
: restraints she cannot. She has not slept in
: two nights and therefore I have not. I am
: desperate, she just cries all night and
: nothing I have tried helps. I don't know
: what to do, any advice?
