Yes, she refused to take it from a cup, sippy cup or haberman spoon. We started introducing the cup during the middle of the day because the morning and nighttime feedings are the ones where they want the comfort of the bottle the most. We would also give her most of the formula with a bottle, and then once she wasn't starving anymore, we would give her a half ounce with the sippy cup. She really hated it, but at least she was aware of the existance of the cup. Then after surgery when she realized she wasn't going to get the bottle, she was very angry. But the point comes where they are hungry enough where they just accept things and take it from the sippy cup. This took about two days after surgery. But they won't let you leave the hospital until the child is getting enough food and fluids. So we would give her a half ounce of formula from the sippy cup (with her screaming), then we would use a syringe to suck up stage 1 apple sauce and bannanas and pudding and squirt it in her mouth and then we also would try pediolyte (sp??) in the sippy cup and also in the syringe. The syringe is going to be your best friend for the first 2 days after surgery until the baby accepts the fact that their bottle days are over and they will have to drink from the sippy cup. Just keep practicing through all the screaming and the most important part is keeping them hydrated after surgery with the syringe. The sippy cup will work itself out.
