Hi Jen, unfortunately I've found that anything I do that involves my daughter eating more, involves denial. Kate did have an n/g to back up her eating, so I didn't worry so much. And she wasn't ever a good bottle drinker, so again I didn't give that much thought either.
The other thing to consider is that it takes some kids (irregardless of PRS or anything) a while to get used to sippy cup drinking. My oldest (perfectly healthy, no PRS) took FOREVER to wean to a sippy cup. I thought something was wrong with him! I understand your not wanting to deny Jack food, but if he's already 100% oral, he'll likely pick it up once he realizes that's how he's getting his milk.
We had the most luck with the Nuby 2 handled cup. It satisfied her wanting to chew on the spout and still allowed liquid to go in, and it's texture is very like a silicone nipple.

: Hi everyone. I am pulling my hair out trying
: to get Jackson completely off the bottle
: before surgery - and the sippy cup has to be
: free flowing, no sucking docs orders.
: Jack's cleft repair will be extensive so
: these guidelines do make sense but I am
: losing faith that I can implement them. He
: is fed 100% orally so no feeding tube as a
: back-up.
:
: Right now Jack is mechanically successful
: using a Munchkin cup with a hole poked in
: the air intake to make it free flowing -
: messy when he tips it over but otherwise it
: does not spill down him. However, he will
: only take max 2 ounces at a time. He is
: down to 3 bottles a day: morning, lunch, and
: bedtime. I hate to cute out the lunch
: bottle because right now he gets the
: majority of his volume from the three
: bottles - and still he seems to wake up at
: night hungry.
:
: We have 7 weeks so I was going to slowly go
: to 2 bottles then one as his cup volume
: increased but I am not seeing any increase
: so this plan is dead in the water. So, I am
: wondering if you have any tips about how to
: get him to increase his volume with the
: sippy cup? Should I cut out the lunch
: bottle, have him starving by dinner, and see
: if he drinks more then? Cut out all
: bottles? All of my options seem to involve
: getting him starving and I hate this idea.
: What do you think??
