I agree with the previous post in that I would rule out any hearing issues. Beyond that, speech therapy is a must. I don't think there is any common age for speech development amongst prs kids that I'm aware of. My son had speech issues that were unrelated to his cleft. For instance, he would leave off the first (or sometimes the last) letter of every word for quite awhile even post repair. I was told this is a common speech issue and is not necessarily prs related, but it did need attention. We spent endless hours speaking slowly and nicely drawing attention to our sounds and mouth formations. It has paid off, Kevin sounds great now and talks endlessly! (5yo) Good luck to your grandson!

: My grandson is now 3 1/2 years old and has
: PRS. He has had the cleft palatte repair,
: etc. but is still nonverbal except for
: imitating a couple of animal sounds. I have
: read through most of the message board, and
: it seems that everyone has feeding issues (
: he is also 100 % g-tube fed) but no one
: mentions speech delay. Is this not common
: with PRS? At what age do most PRS kids start
: talking? (even though I know each kid is
: different). We have always had more of an
: issue with him being nonverbal that being
: unable to eat. Do most PRS kids start
: speaking at a fairly early age?
