My son also has a speech delay. He has recieved Speech Therapy sessions on a weekly basis since he was a year old. (He is now 3) He was also tube fed, trached, had a mandibular distraction, cleft pallate repair, etc.. He no longer has his trach or feeding tube.
He is starting to say 3 and 4 word sentences now, most of the time leaving out simple words such as IS or THE. He struggles with articulation and prononciation.
Is your grandson recieving speech therapy? What state do you live in? In Maryland we have free services for those who are eligible which are offered thru the school system for those who are over 3 yrs of age.
Has your grandson had a hearing test?? My son wasnt making any progress with his speech up until he had ear tubes placed.. then his speech took off! He simply couldnt hear well before due to excess fliud in his ears.

: My grandson is now 3 1/2 years old and has
: PRS. He has had the cleft palatte repair,
: etc. but is still nonverbal except for
: imitating a couple of animal sounds. I have
: read through most of the message board, and
: it seems that everyone has feeding issues (
: he is also 100 % g-tube fed) but no one
: mentions speech delay. Is this not common
: with PRS? At what age do most PRS kids start
: talking? (even though I know each kid is
: different). We have always had more of an
: issue with him being nonverbal that being
: unable to eat. Do most PRS kids start
: speaking at a fairly early age?
