My second child, Enoch, did have his jaw grow out on its own. It is still not where his oral surgeon or plastic surgeon would like it to be but they are content to let it keep growing on its own. If it becomes more of an issue as he grows they will do a jaw distraction.
Start taking pictures of your 4 month old profile and you can then see any progress. That is what we did with Enoch. We did not notice any changes until about 1 year old.
