The Montblanc 139 was the flagship of the 13x series. This version is a late model produced just before the switch to the 14x series and replacement by the 149. It dates to the 1948-1950 timeframe. The pen is all celluloid with no hard rubber pieces. The celluloid is in great shape with no cracks or chips. The pen is a piston filler and it is is working condition. The visualated ink window is the short version with the pinstriping intact and minimal ambering. The nib is a 139 medium/fine semi-flexible two two 14C. The cap band is gold-filled with the the outer cap bands already the sterling silver seen on the 149s. All cap bands tight to the barrel. The star is in excellent condition with minimal ageing. The Montblanc 138 Meisterstuck is a piston filler dressed in golf-filled trim. The pen dates to 1945. This is a rare model and it is in near mint plus condition. The pen is celluloid and the celluloid is in clean condition. No marks, cracks or other imperfections. The visualated ink window is in excellent condition with clean vertical lines and minimal ambering. The pen nib is medium broad with an italic flair and is flexible. The nib is made of wartime alloy (alloy of platinum, iridium & palladium). Due to WWII, the 138 was never produced with a solid gold nib. The trim is in excellent condition with no brassing and the clip is the famous bowtie. The cap ring is tight to the barrel. The star is clean and in great shape. A great example of a rare pen.
