Aurora’s pen factory was destroyed in the Second World War and a new factory built near Turin which launched their competitor to the Parker 51 in 1947, the model 88 which has become Aurora’s iconic postwar model. This original 88 has a differential thread piston and a hooded nib with an excellent feed and softer flexible nibs than the 51.
This Model 88 dates from about 1949 with black barrel and Nickargenta cap in a fine line pattern. Nickargenta (also called Argentan and German Silver) is an alloy of nickel, copper and zinc and provides a polished finish more durable than silver. The section has the Aurora 88 imprint and the barrel has an ink window with excellent transparency. The piston filler has been serviced and the pen has a fine flexible nib, a very smooth, soft writer. The pen is in excellent condition and comes with the original aluminium case and cleaning cloth.
The pen is 13.cm closed and 14.5cm with the cap posted.
