For sale from my collection is this amazing and very beautiful Caran D’Ache limited edition Gotica fountain pen. The pen is mint, unused, never dipped. Complete with its Caran D’Ache converter and superb wooden Caran D’Ache box. The box is not original to the pen.
It’s a very large, substantial and impressive pen issued in the early 2000s. It measures 17cm (6 ¾ inches) and is fitted with and 18C 750 gold Medium nib. Its body is sterling silver and is hallmarked Ag 925 and has a serial number below 300 hundred out of 1140 pieces issued.
The pen is a miniaturized tribute to gothic art and architecture. “Gotica” has a six-sided rhodium-coated sterling silver body and cap and each surface displays a gothic window of rosette and fleurs-de-lis in luminous colours. The edition is limited to 1140 pieces as a tribute to the age which provided its inspiration. The edition is long sold out.
Each of these luxury fountain pens starts its life in the workshops of Barcelona silversmiths Miguel Cunhill who produce the silver framework for the gothic decoration. Caran d’Ache master craftsmen then apply the colours to the pen using a fine brush. The colouring technique is appropriately reminiscent of that used to create stained glass.
If you are looking for a truly impressive fountain pen to use and or display this is it. It will be the center piece of any collection.
I will also include my copy of the March 2003 Edition of Pen World which features the Gotica on the cover and details in the magazine its history and release information.
