A Waterman’s 52 ½, the slender version of the 52, in smooth black hard rubber with barrel overlay in 9ct solid gold in the barleycorn pattern. The overlay has the FDW London hallmarks for 1924.
Interestingly the BHR pen has a USA imprint, so would have been exported to the UK where the overlay was made. The cap has a Canadian imprint so presumably is a replacement for the original USA cap.
The pen is a lever filler with an “NW2” nib, a very smooth medium point without flex.
Closed the pen is 13.4cm (5 ¼ inches) and with the cap posted 16.6cm (6 ½ inches). A very attractive pen to write with, fits nicely in the hand and the smoothness of the nib is very relaxing.
Condition: excellent; the gold overlay is in pristine condition, the hallmarks crisp, the black rubber has good very colour and the nib writes beautifully. The only downside is that the cap is probably a replacement though it is the correct cap for the model. This is reflected in the lower price for a pen in such fine condition.
