Mabie Todd Swallow combination pen-pencil in black and pearl celluloid with gold-filled trim, made in the USA around 1930.
These combination pens are not too commonly found and this is an excellent example.
The ball clip has the “Swallow” imprint and the barrel “SWALLOW MABIE TODD & CO. PAT. MAY.21-18”
The pen is a lever filler with a fine flexible 14ct. MT&Co. No. 2 nib.
The pencil leads are extended by twisting the cone. The top of the cap unscrews to reveal the eraser, which is almost unused.
Capped using the pencil the combi is 15.7cm (6 ¼ inches) and uncapped using the pen, 13.2cm (5 ¼ inches).
Condition: excellent; the celluloid is in excellent condition, the colour is slightly darkened but still very good and there is no brassing of the trim. Both pen and pencil are in excellent working order.
