The “Duro” pen was Conway Stewart’s first oversize pen and this pen can be dated accurately because if has the locking lever lugs introduced in 1924 and pre-dates the re-naming to “Duro 1” in early 1926.
The mottled hard rubber is in excellent condition and colour; the barrel imprint is: “The “Duro” Pen Conway Stewart London MADE IN ENGLAND. The gold filled trim is also in excellent condition with no brassing, just a few minor scratches on the lever.
The big nib has the imprint “Conway Stewart 14ct” and is a very smooth medium firm writer with an oblique point and lots of iridium.
This is a large pen, 14cm (5 ½ inches) closed and 17.4cm (over 6 3/4 inches) with the cap posted.
A beautiful example of Conway Stewart’s first oversize pen.
