The “Duro” pen was Conway Stewart’s first oversize pen and this pen can be dated accurately because if has the locking lever lugs introduced in 1924 and pre-dates the re-naming to “Duro 1” in early 1926 . Red hard rubber Duro pens are not easy to find for collectors.
The barrel imprint is feint but legible: “The “Duro” Pen Conway Stewart London MADE IN ENGLAND
This is a large pen, 14.3cm (5 5/8 inches) closed and 18cm (7 inches) with the cap posted. The pen is a lever filler and the big 14k Conway Stewart nib is a fine point and a smooth firm writer.
Condition: Excellent; the colour is excellent with just a little darkening towards the section where the cap screws on. The gold filled trim is very good, a few small marks on the side of the clip and an area of brassing on the side of the cap band visible under magnification. The pen has been fitted with a new sac and writes well.
