Parker 180 gold plated fountain pen and ballpoint pen in the gold plated guirlande pattern, made at the Parker France Meru factory c1982. “Guirlande” literally means “garland” and this pattern is perhaps the most attractive in the Place Vendome collection of gold and silver plated pens introduced in 1980 as high end Parker models.
The 180 series was launched by Parker in 1977, alongside the Parker 75. The pen had a unique design of nib, not only able to be used on both sides – hence the model name “180” – but also with an under/over bottom feed and top steel bar designed to stop used who pressed the nib like they did a ballpoint from breaking the nib! So the 180 pens have a nib has two points, typically the top is a medium and the bottom an extra fine, hence the X/M nib marking.
180 Gold Plated Guirlande Fountain Pen
The pen was new old stock when I bought it some years ago and I have only inked it 2-3 times since. It is in excellent condition. The nib is the X/M combination, medium and fine points, as marked on the feed. The pen has dished tassies and is 13.1cm (5 1/8 inches) closed and 12.9cm (5 inches) with the cap posted.
Price: $160 (£120, €135) plus postage (see below)
180 Gold Plated Guirlande Ballpoint Pen
Not bought as a set with the fountain pen but in the same guirlande pattern and also new old stock when I bought it. To my knowledge I have never used the pen and it is still NOS. It has the same dished tassies as the fountain pen. The pen is 13.6cm (5 inches) long.
Oddly perhaps, I think the 180 Vendome ballpoints are more difficult to find than the fountain pens.
