Beautiful Waterman’s 0502 eye dropper pen with Golpheresque gold filled overlay, made in the USA, c1902 -1910.
The 0502 appears in Waterman’s 1902 catalogue and in the 1908 catalogue. It does not appear in the 1919 catalogue (only the 0504). In the 1908 catalogue the pen is priced at $10.
The pen is 14.4cm (5 ¼ inches closed and 17.3cm (6 3/8 inches) when the cap is posted.
The model imprint on the end of barrel, “0502” is clear (though with a factory overprint). There is a worn but liegible imprint on the hard rubber end of the barrel: “Waterman’s ideal fountain pen”.
The 14k New York nib is a long #2, a fine point, a smooth firm writer.
The pen comes complete with the original case. The case would have held both the pen and the eye dropper.
Condition: excellent; no dings, the overlay is in lovely condition; just a few very small spots of brassing at the every edge of the barrel overlay at the section and the bottom edge of the cap overlay, just visible under magnification. The indicia has a single letter engraved, an elaborate “K”. The nib has lots of iridium. The case is in very good condition, just minor marks on the lining; the hinges are good and the lid closes firmly.
