Waterman’s 12 PSF Coin Filler in black smooth hard rubber with a screw cap and a fine very flexible nib with lovely line variation, c1912.
Coin fillers were not a long term bet in the range of ways to produce a self-filling pen so were only made for a few years. But the pen is very simple to fill: insert a coin (a US quarter is fine) in the barrel slot, press down onto the bar to depress the sac and release, much like a lever fill without the lever.
The pen is 13.2cm (almost 5 ¼ inches) closed and 6.5cm (6 ½ inches) with the cap posted, a very comfortable pen to use. The nib is everything a vintage nib should be, from fine to medium to broad line variation with easy flex.
Condition: fine, good colour, very slight even fading, no significant marks, crisp imprints, a delightful flexible nib, serviced, fills well and ready to write.
