That I have not continued to trust in Jesus? Not! I am still networking. What I have found is that here in Atlanta, things are just different than I am used to. People think differently and I have to adapt to that. One nice thing about relocating, you have to constantly evaluate yourself, your methods and to hone your "people skills." But you also have to have a clear idea of who you are and whose you are. It is hard to convince others that you belong to Jesus if you don't quite believe it. So for me, that meant returning to the beginning. To some, my time in Atlanta would appear to be a time of hurt and rejection. I live with my oldest brother. We were not raised together and I have wanted to live with him since we met, in 1965. After I was widowed and my children left home, it was finally a time to fulfill that dream to be with him. His lovely wife, Sue, her brother Greg and my niece, Savannah completes out family. She is the first female in our family since me! Fifty years apart, she and I have a special bond. She gets a concert regularly and our time together has made my life here bearable. Each day I spend hours on the phone and online making connections. What have been the results? I was under consideration for a recording contract with a label. They decided to go with a younger singer. I was booked for a major outdoor festival. It was canceled. I was booked for a cable TV show. I arrived for the taping: no taping! I auditioned for a major entertainment company. They thanked me for showing up! I have contacted churches of all denominations. No bookings yet! In other words, I have not earned one cent in almost 6 months. Where is God in all this? As a woman of faith, He has spoken to my spirit and reminded me that He will NEVER leave me. That alone has kept me focused on "The Vision" that He spoke into my spirit back in 1982: "TAKE TRADITIONAL GOSPEL MUSIC TO NONTRADITIONAL VENUES." Sometimes that is ALL I have. He has shown up in the people that he has sent my way to encourage me. I have appeared on a live radio show and the announcer has become my friend. I sang at a Christmas memorial service in Opelika Alabama. They received me very well. I am in the process of becoming a member of a wonderful church. They are looking forward to hearing my music ministry. The pastor, Victor Massey, is a superb teacher and really encouraged my spirit. My friends in Boston continue to call and send gifts and expressions of encouragement. My main band, The Evelyn McDonald Gospel Group, consisting of Hakim, Lisa, my Gospel Princess Samantha, Bennett, Karen and Brendyn Always keep me in their prayers and never let me forget that I can always come home to Boston. I am booked to return to Belgium in April 2002 and will be taking my best friend, Trish, with me as my aide. We are 500 miles apart and she continues to be my emotional support. For me, I am using this time to strengthen my faith, my prayer life and to prepare for my next blessing from God. When will it come? My role is to wait. I am trusting and knowing that God will show up on time. I thank God for Rev. John Fullard. From the beginning of our relationship, I have always felt that he would be there for me. He has been. His encouragement has meant so much to me. Pastor May The Lord God Bless YOU Real Good. Gospelly Yours, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! - REv. I started out singing in a little Baptist church in 1953. My grandfather founded that church and most of my time was spent there. Those people, many were relatives, gave me a foundation that, to this day, stands firm in the faith of Jesus Christ. I was baptized there at the age of 6, knowing then that I was a sinner who needed Jesus. There I was given a chance to sing, speak and to be loved. As an adult, those things have become precious to me. What I received at the New Pilgrim Baptist Church, 72 Miller Street, Pittsburgh, PA continues to sustain me.
Fullard: SEE YOU AT THE STELLAR AWARDS. SAVE ME A SEAT AT YOUR TABLE.
