This is just a note to keep everyone up to date on what's going on Andrea's
case. In November, there was a mistrial. Jose Ortiz has been in jail since
Oct'99 pending the outcome of his intoxication manslauther trial.
Jury will be selected May 29th--Trial will begin May 30th and continue
through Thursday, No trial on Friday . Trial will begin again Monday June
4th.
At the Trial in November, we were overwhelmed by the support of family and
friends.I know a lot of people missed work in order to sit with us in court.
You will never know how much that meant to us. I don't know how we could
have made it without you. Everyone was riled then and we appreciate your
support. We will always remember and always thank you.
help........................
This truly is the biggest help you could give:
As you may or may not know we have been trying to get everyone to help by
writing a letter to the judge. These letters are read by the judge before
sentencing. They are also read by any future parole boards.
Your letters are a huge help, not only for the sentencing and the stopping
the possibility of parole but also in consoling the family.
sent. They have really helped. The letters are all different; they range
from memories of Andrea to having watched the family suffer and how they
would feel if it happened to their family to how they feel about drunk
driving and the repeated intoxicated manslaughters by illegals in
Texas and New Mexico.
Even if you only knew Andrea through a friend or a family member, you can
still write a letter......There's no such thing as a bad letter.
Many letters had this similar description of Andrea;
" her outer beauty, as magnificent as it was, so paled in comparison to her
inner love and
light"........................................................................
Texas leads the nation in these type deaths. Being a border state, Texas
also has its share of illegals with previous records that are injuring and
killing us, those numbers are growing.
