Posted by Roxie Swain The chili cooking starts at 8:00 a.m., it will be judged at 12:00 noon and the results will be announced at 2:00 p.m. The entry fee for the chili contest is $25.00 and there is a five pound chili minimum. There are four rules for cooking chili 1) Start cooking at 8 a.m. 2) Do all cooking on location 3) No fillers - beans, rice, pasta, hominy, etc. 4) HAVE FUN! Chili cooks or food vendors are required to have a temporary food permit. To obtain a free food permit call the State of New Mexico Environment Department in Hobbs at 505-393-4302. The registration fee for the car, truck and motorcycle contest is $15 per vehicle. The five categories for cars are 1)Originals 2)Euros 3)Vintage 4)Street Rods 5)Low Riders. There will be other fun events for all ages to participate in such as the long neck toss, a weenie bite, tug of war, water balloon toss. There will be live radio broadcasting and live bands will be playing music throughout the day. Booth fees are $15.00 and you can set up a booth to sell food, beverages, souvenirs or you can set up game booth for people to participate in. You will be responsible for everything you need for setting up. All proceeds from the event will be donated to a local charity. Bring your lawn chairs and plan to spend a fun day. Come to Jal on Saturday, October 23, 2004, for the 3rd Annual Chili Cook Challenge, Car, Truck, and Motorcycle Show at the Jal Lake Park. Get a team together and enter the chili cooking contest or bring an old, new, unique, or just plain car, truck or motorcycle to be judged by expert judges.
