Posted by Roxie McMahan Swain Information regarding the reunion was posted on this site, in the Jal Record and in several area newspapers, and was broadcasted on several area radio and television stations. Letters were sent to the 2000 reunion representatives. About 25 class reps sent information to their respective classes regarding the reunion. Approximately 110 people attended and everyone had a super time. There was a lot of visiting and picture taking going on. The oldest class represented was 1940 and the youngest class was 1979. The class with the most attending was the class of 1956. Billy Norton, Class '61 came the farthest and that was all the way from Rockford, Minnesota. Teachers attending were Ida Hair Fellers (she also graduated from Jal in '41) Mart Cope, Minnie Bell Hedgpeth, and Carolyn Gunn. John Harvey Sparling, Class '61, was there with his new heart, In case you don't remember he got his heart just two days after the 2000 reunion. He is doing really good and looks great. Everyone was glad to see him. There were display boards from several classes, numerous annuals, and a bunch of scrapbooks and photo albums to reminisce over. Plans are in the making for another big reunion on Labor Day weekend 2005. If you know where you are but we don't know where you are please let us know so we can get your name on a class list with your correct address. Here is an assignment for you. Mr. W.R. "Bill" Meador, Class '51, is writing a book about Jal. He is planning on it being ready by the 2005 reunion. It will be a compilation of stories written by anyone who wants to contribute to it. He said it could be about an event that happened while you lived in Jal, someone who was influential over your life while you were growing up in Jal or just about anything you would care to write about concerning Jal. He said it would be edited for spelling and grammar so not to let that discourage you from writing. His address is W.R. Meador, 2219 Western Dr., Midland, TX 79701 That is all for now, have a good tomorrow. Roxie McMahan Swain

The Holiday Inn in Odessa was the site of a rather impromtu Jal School Reunion on September 14, 2002.
So be thinking about that. Sounds like a fun book to have.
