Melissa, I just talked with Paula Ferguson and got a little update on Rick. He had a double by-pass done in Lubbock about 2:30 Saturday morning after having a massive heart attack. The right side of his heart is damaged and there is a balloon still in him making his heart beat. If his platelet count is up by about six or seven this evening they are going to try and remove the balloon. That will be a risky procedure and Paula said there was still another obstacle or two before they said he was home free. He is in FICU in Covenant Hospital in Lubbock. The waiting room number there is 806-725-0126 .
Rick had his gall bladder removed April 17 and had not done well since then. Friday, at Hobbs hospital, they put a stint into a liver duct was that closed off, there was some infection, that along with the anesthesia and the stress of the surgery plus apparently his heart was in bad shape (and they weren't aware of it) all combined to maybe cause the heart attack. Paula said she was positive the only reason he was alive was because he is in such good shape. They are fanatical about walking and working out and watching what they eat. He just seemed to be so healthy. He hasn't felt well since last September, she said, and they had been to some doctors trying to find out what was wrong with him but nothing was ever pin pointed. It is just so scary and I just pray he recovers.
I will try to keep you updated as I can. If you don't mind you might post in on the Panther message board. For some mysterious reason I can't seem to access it and that really makes me mad. I think I need a new computer.
