Posted by bulgarian on 9/14/2006, 6:19 pm The Volga bulgars and their Jagfar Tarihi summed up the bulgar ethnicity as a mixture of cimmerian and scythians(finno-ugrian branch). Today's history incorrectly defines the bulgars as being turkic,i.e somewhat close. The cimmerians are descendent from the sumerians of Mesopotamia. Here is a link listing a number of proto-bulgarian words...unfortunately none turkish. http://www.kroraina.com/b_lang/bl_oldwords.html

According to Procopius of Caesaria the bulgars were previously known as cimmerians..."the bulgarians whom we used to known from earlier times as cimmerians(kimeroi)"
In the last 25-30 years the stone inscriptions of the columns of the Pliska capital of the Danubian proto-bulgars were decoded and the words written in greek are mostly finno-ugrian(pamiric),aranno-persian and sumero-akadian.
The Volga bulgars, the kazhars and the danubian bulgars would ultimately being assimilated into turkish and slavic majority later on.
