But it's not a new thing. When Margrethe was a child, the royal family sometimes went on a day trip to Sweden without appointing a regent. Also in recent years we have seen the Danish RF going to Sweden for some hours without leaving a regent behind in Denmark. Likewise, the Queen has sometimes been in Germany for a day without appointing a regent. So the interpretation of the law nowadays seems to be that a regent is not required when the monarch doesn't spend the night abroad.
