"Thanks for these interesting series of pictures or illustrations of Plantagenet royal burials, Damian! Did you personally take some of those pictures? If so, these are great."
No,none of them are mine.I obtained them from various sources on the internet, including Wikipedia.
"The grave of King John.....the little statue of a man lying right next to John...was that of a church minister? Also, at the bottom, under John's shoes, and under what I assume a little lion, was it a rock or something else?"
Not sure but I suspect it may be of St.Wulfstan for whom John seems to have had a special devotion. The cathedral church in which he lies buried was originally dedicated to St.Wulfstan.
(2) "Was Joan of Kent, Princess of Wales, buried near her husband, Prince Edward the Black Prince?"
No,Joan requested that she be buried next to her first husband,Thomas Holland at the Greyfriars Church at Stamford in Lincolnshire.
(3) "I noticed Henry IV's sculptered right hand was broken off and left three "fingerprints" on his chest. If his tomb is fenced around, how does it happen?"
Again,I don't know when or how the damage occurred but it almost certainly happened before the tomb was fenced off. There does not seem to have been any recent attempt to replace the missing hand with a reconstructed replica.
"As always, I enjoy your historical comments both here and over at British Royal Message Board. (and Karen's, too)."
You're always welcome. Why don't you join the British Board too and join in the discussions there? The instructions for joining are at the top of that board.
