The program has changed. Today I took the metro to Charlottenburg and visited the Schloss and the park.
The Schloss was a it disappointing. It remains a miracle that the Germans managed it to recreate the Schloss from the terrible ruins caused by WWII. But in contrary to (for an example) Het Loo Palace the rooms were unlively and dead. You could also see that it were recreations indeed. When you are in the bedchamber of the Queen, you woud expect a huge stately bed. But all what you see were a couple (non original) vases and chairs.
Now I have seen Schloss Charlottenburg, the Reichstag and the Berliner Dom, I really doubt if the City of Berlin should go on with the plans to recreate the former Stadsschloss on the remnants of the Palast der Republik.
No matter you try so hard, you will keep seeing that the whole building is a poor remnant from the grandeur it once had.
Schloss Sanssouci has survived the war relatively unharmed, luckily enough.
